On Australian Bite this week with  Jill Scanlon, we look at an indigenous sports broadcasting program with the National Indigenous Radio Service and supported by the AFL. Australia’s wild horse – the Brumby – has some unique traits according to researchers who have followed groups of them for four years. And we enjoy the tale of ‘Kevin – the kangaroo who couldn’t hop!’ - a book inspired by a young disabled girl taking her first steps.

Australia’s extraordinary wild horses.

According to Brian Hampson, Australia’s wild Brumbies have developed some extraordinary and undervalued traits. The PhD scholar from the school of veterinary science at the University of Queensland has discovered this and more after four years of tracking the wild horse breed across central Australia. He tells the ABC’s Paul Serratore what he’s found.

Physiotherapist Jonathan Elabor combined his city and bush experiences to write the book ‘Kevin – the kangaroo that couldn’t hop’. He told the ABC’s Nicky Redl his inspiration for the story was a young disabled girl he watched walk for the first time.
