American Grrrl’s Zine Project with Cambodian Women
21 October 2011
Listen and download: MP3
American Anne Elizabeth Moore arrived in Phnom Penh in 2007 to teach a group of young women how to make zines. At that time young women in Cambodia were still largely denied access to education even though the Khmer Rouge had gone.
Not only did educational institutions have to be rebuilt, dormitory accommodation was built for boys. But what the girls taught her, in turn, has challenged her understanding of Cambodia and Cambodia-US relations.
Anne Elizabeth Moore’s book Cambodian Grrrl is a confronting insight into the lives of young girls who are finding their voice and their place in Cambodian society against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Presenter: Adelaine Ng
