Landmark Australian buildings will be illuminated in red for the global launch of World AIDS Day on December 1.

The Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Canberra’s Parliament House will turn red in support of an AIDS-free generation by 2015.

The coordinator of the event, the Pacific Friends of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, says it’s an ambitious but attainable goal.

New HIV infections globally have been down over 20 per cent since 1997.

The event will be attended by the Governor-General and prominent HIV experts and advocates.

One of them is James Chau, the face of China Central Television Network’s English channel.
