The Thai capital Bangkok appears to be bearing up well against flood waters from the north, although people living along the famous canals in the city’s north have been warned to prepare for evacuation.

Local reports say emergency barriers along Bangkok’s swollen Chao Phraya River prevented a major overflow during a high tide over the weekend.

Flood waters did reach the outskirts of the central tourist and business districts, although much of the shopping neighbourhood remains dry.

At least 381 people are known to have perished in the flood waters.
