US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has touched down in Burma, the first Secretary of State to do so in 50 years.

The last time such a high level visit took place, it was 1955 and the Secretary of State was John Foster Dulles. In 1953 then-President Richard Nixon dropped made a visit. But there’s been years of US sanction since then and this visit comes amid signs of reforms in Burma. A small number of political prisoners have been released, although many remain behind bars. A controversial Chinese-backed dam project was scrapped although others are going forward. The key question is just how far will these reforms go?
