Indonesian Muslims support beleagured church at Christmas

Moderate muslim groups In Indonesia are supporting a Presbyterian church which was not allowed to hold Christmas Day services in the city of Bogor.
Hardline Islamic groups opposed to the presence of a Christian church demonstrated outside the closed church building at Christmas, forcing church members to hold services in a private house.
They were attended by the sister and daughter of Indonesia’s former President, the late Abdurrahman Wahid, as well as representatives from the youth wing of Indonesia’s largest Muslim group, Nahdlatul Ulama, and AMAN, the Asian Muslim Action Network, as a show of support for religious freedom.
Ruby Khalifa, spokeswoman for AMAN, says the local authorities have been making life difficult for the Yasmin church, which is part of the Indonesian Christian Church, or GKI.
