The largest exhibition of Chinese art to be displayed in Australia goes on show at Australia’s National Museum in Canberra, only days prior to Chairman Mao Zedong’s 1949 declaration of the People’s Republic of China.

The contemporary works look at China in three phases — New China from 1949 to 1977; New Thinking from 1978 to 1999 and finally the New Century from 2000 to 2009.

The curators of “A New Horizon; Contemporary Chinese Art” say it reflects the development of China and the evolution of Chinese Art with western influences.
