ABC cameraman’s humanity shone in the Pacific

ABC cameraman John Bean had a soft spot for Papua New Guinea. And many in Port Moresby will remember his gentle kindness. In 2004, John filmed an extraordinary Australian Story episode for ABC TV about the PNG parlimentarian Dame Carol Kidu. Then, years later, while filming for the Australia Network’s Pacific Pulse program, the two met again and embraced like long lost cousins. Australia Network presenter Tania Nugent who witnessed the exchange in PNG last year describes John Bean’s humanity, professionalism and connection with children.
