UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has announced he plans to visit Burma soon to talk with Government officials there.

Mr Ban said he was encouraged by recent reforms including the release of political prisoners.

He also announced that he’s appointed his chief-of-staff, Vijay Nambiar of India, as his special envoy to Burma.

The strengthened diplomatic engagement comes as the International Monetary Fund released it’s first analysis of Burma’s economy in more than a decade.
