China’s Vice President Welcomed in Washington

American President Barack Obama and the Chinese Vice-President Xi JinPing met for the first time at the White House in what is Washington’s first chance to gauge the leader who will steer China into the coming decade. Also on hand for the high level meet and greet – Vice President Joe Biden, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and senior defense personnel.
The US President has couched the relationship with China as a crucial part of the US commitment to the Asia/Pacific region – with China looking to emphasis the strength of future economic ties.
Tracee Hutchison spoke to John Garnaut – Fairfax Asia Economics Correspondent – based in Beijing.
He says it’s a very significant visit for China, and for Xi Jingping
