A Papua New Guinea based Civil Society group is looking for public support to try and force governments to seriously reconsider the push to exploit potential underwater mineral resources through seabed mining.

In recent years, right across the Pacific the potential mineral wealth lying underneath the sea, has attracted the attention of business and governments, especially in those areas where there is little in the way of other sources of economic income.

But that’s led to concerns that resource will be used, with little benefit coming back to the people where it came from, and that by utilising it, there may be damage that will affect the livelihood and lifestyle of people long after the miners have left.
