The Straits is an intense new drama on ABC TV where family politics and organised crime play out in the remote tropical heat of Cairns, the Torres Straits and Papua New Guinea.

The series is based on an idea by actor Aaron Fa’Aoso who grew up in Far North Queensland and has mixed Tongan, Torres Strait and Malay heritage.

He told Clement Paligaru, while he was conscious of how the places and their people would come across in the series, he is emphatic that the Far North is not exempt from crime as such.

Presenter: Clement Paligaru

Speaker: Aaron Fa’Aoso, plays Noel in The Straits
