A piece of Great Barrier Reef has been frozen… in the Australian outback, hundreds of kilometres from the coast.

The coral – made up of 70 billion sperm and 22 billion coral embryos – will be suspended in a liquid nitrogen chamber of minus 196 degrees Celsius.

It’s part of a plan to ensure the survival of the reef increasingly under attack from global warming and environmental pollutants.
