Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court has held an extraordinary sitting today – to deal with a number of cases connected to to the country’s political drama.

The court ordered Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, his rival Sir Michael Somare, their supporters, and the heads of the defence and police forces to appear in court to resolve the leadership impasse in the country.

There’s some expectation that this sitting might finally determine who is actually PNG’s Prime Minister – but it’s not clear how that might be achieved – and in what timeframe – with so many cases and counter-cases clogging the legal system.

Tracee Hutchison spoke to the ABC’s PNG correspondent Liam Fox who says the Supreme Court has deferred its decision.
