Vanishing Tekopia: the magic of sound

Australian composer David Chesworth is reknown for his unusual instrumentation and original soundscapes. His latest work “Vanishing Tekopia” accidentally led him to discover Tikopia, a tiny island in the Solomon Islands.
The plight of Tikopia’s small community in the aftermath of destructive cyclone Zoe in late 2002 inspired the title of his latest album. The ocean swamped the small island and contaminated its fresh water lake, just as Western culture swamps minority cultures, says Chesworth.
