New Zealand’s Te Papa Museum in Wellington has welcomed the return of twenty Toi Moko, mummified tattoed Maori heads, formerly held in French institutions.
After years of red tape, the French parliament passed a law in late 2010 which paved the way for the restitution to New Zealand of all Maori heads held in France, acknowledging their cultural and spiritual significance to Maori people and New Zealand.
