The work of Muslims in Indonesia

Too often it is only the fundamentalist Islamic organisations in Indonesia which make the headlines, especially in the western media.

Left untold are the many positive contributions Muslim organisations make to everyday life.

Our reporter, Christine Webster, is participating in an “Understanding Near Neighbours Fellowship” run by the Melbourne-based Asia Pacific Journalism Centre.

She has been meeting with representatives from Indonesia’s Islamic community and filed this Correspondents Report from Yogjakarta.

The pope’s week in Australia’s harbour city

Deborah Steele, the head of news and current affairs here at Radio Australia, reports as the head of the Roman Catholic church, Pope Benedict the 16th, is in Australia this week as part of World Youth Day.

It’s one of the biggest celebrations of the Catholic faith and it’s taking place on a scale that’s been likened to APEC and the Olympics rolled into one.

Climate Change and Coral Reefs

The International Coral Reef Symposium is underway in Florida.

Nearly 3,000 scientists from all over the world are there, presenting the latest research on how the world’s coral reefs are coping with challenges like climate change and man-made pollution.
