In the studio: Arakians of Fatima
Arakians of Fatima have had to get a little creative when it comes to recording. And, as the band’s Max Makain tells us, recording is not the only challenge they face in Karaite, PNG.
Max and the band compose their music, with lyrics sung in Olo and Pidgin languages, on a Yamaha 16-track sequencer. They then connect their keyboard to a cassette recorder, and while dubbing the music to tape, sing and add other instruments over the top. Very resourceful and inventive!
Though they didn’t use any computer software in the production of their Pacific Break entry “Kedere Meri”, Max explains that Arakians of Fatima have been trying to enter the world of digital production to keep up with changing trends in music. The group have been trying to learn CoolEdit, Reason and Fruityloops.
