Richard Mogu: ‘Kini Male’

Posted on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 in Australasian World Music Expo, Snapshots, Video

As we mentioned earlier, we were thrilled to see Richard Mogu performing at the Australasian World Music Expo on Saturday in Melbourne, Australia.

The Papua New Guinean musician showed off his incredible fingerpicking bass talent in an epic, brooding performance at the Victorian Arts Centre alongside Tabura and Ykson. It’s difficult to explain just how moody and intense this music was, and how rapturous the audience response, but we hope you like watching the performance all the same.

Richard Mogu sings in a combination of tongues – English, Tok Pisin and Motu language. He describes this song – ‘Kini Male’, written by drummer Airileke Ingram – as a party song, and we’d have to agree with him there.
