Women terrorists: the elastic breaks

This is a photo, probably taken on a camera phone immediately after a suicide bomber blew herself up on the Moscow subway. Around the same time another woman killed herself in the same way in another part of the Metro. Together, the two bombers were responsible for the deaths of 39 people on those trains.
We have heard of women suicide bombers before, but they have never been the norm. People across the world were asking what would encourage two women to take so many lives, many of them young lives.
Hey Dad, where did the justice go?

This is a case that is a minefield to comment on, because it involves allegations of sexual abuse against a child, and if there is any offence that dwells near the dregs of society, it is this.
But the Hey Dad! case is very extraordinary in the precedents that it sets.
The Melbourne GP. Stars Galore

Our first day at the Melbourne Grand Prix yesterday was pretty wild. It was a big transformation from the day before, when teams were preparing in an atmosphere of a gathering thunderstorm.
Yesterday the proverbial thunderstorm of fans, drivers and hangers-on hit, and here are some of the photos of our side of it.

Kevin Rudd’s worm turns

In case you missed it, the Australian prime minster Kevin Rudd took on his Opposition counterpart Tony Abbott in a major debate about health policy, answering questions from the Canberra press gallery.
There was much ado, and as it turns out, the ado was about not very much at all.
